When we created the Bristol Burlesque Festival 2014, we asked each applicant one important question: “What is Burlesque to you?” The answers made us laugh and cry and marvel at the beautiful variety our chosen art form presents. Burlesque to me means adventure, creativity and transformation; I love travelling around, going on crazy adventures, meeting wonderful new people and acquiring the strangest souvenirs! Burlesque gives me the power to transform into a new character in each performance as well as the ability to express myself and what inspires me without words.
Burlesque has given me the creative outlet I’ve always wanted and helped me to find a place in a community where anything goes, where you don’t have to necessarily fit in to be accepted… I am thankful for all the amazing experiences, all the joy and colour it’s brought and best of all, the gorgeous friends I’ve made!
