Glitter is big! Even Fern Cotton was recently snapped after having her face done by the mother of glitter application ‘Glittermasque’ It’s the perfect fun festival face to get heads turning.
It is so versatile and easy to do, you can use any colour and any glitter. Be careful though, some glitter has very sharp edges and can scratch.
I’m constantly on the look out for glitter and have a wide range of different colours, some are fine and some are coarse, in tubes, puffers and pots. You can also add gem stones, diamantes, feathers…anything.
There are a few methods of application and you will have to play around and see what works best for you. Depending on the durability you can use vaseline or cosmetic adhesive, you can even use eyelash glue.

There aren’t any rules or right or wrong ways of doing it, just have fun and be prepared for glitter to rain down on everything!
Here are few handy tips which I have picked up after many years of festival and nightclub makeup:
- Follow the line and curve of you face, have a general idea of the shape you want to create.
- I usually put a base colour down in face paint, it give a guide and a bit of depth or contrast.
- Apply gems on first with a stronger glue.
- Layer different coarseness and colour of glitter.
- Use a cotton bud, an old soft paintbrush or your fingers to apply vaseline then apply the glitter.
Here are a few different fun festival glitter faces, to show the variation of shape, colour and effect. They are all applied the same way.
Green and Gold Glitter
First I sponged on paradise metallic green and gold face paint on to my eye, temple and down to my cheek. Blending the two colours together.

Then I dabbed vaseline on to the paint and using my fingers pressed green and gold glitter on.
You can stop here or finish the design of with black detail.
Then with a small brush I outlined my eye in diamond fx black paint and painted a few swirls and tear drops following the flow of the design.
I finished off painting the same gold over my other eyelid and lips and putting a touch of glitter on my lips.

Gold and Copper Glitter Swirls
With this design I followed the same steps but finished of with Mark Reid’s gold glitter gel.

Purple and Blue with Black Swirls
Here I glued on sequins with duo eyelash glue and finished with black brush detail.
